These Santa Barbara homeowners wanted a pool table for their beachside home that reflected their interior style and the environment around them. West State Billiards created this custom table for their luxurious home, sold by our associate Paul Lockhart.
The entertainment room is set on the side of the house, giving it access to the outdoors and backyard beyond the glass doors. Glass panes allow for natural light to filter through and provide lighting to an otherwise dark space that is more closed off than the rest of the house. A light cream color also helps bring brightness and warmth, providing a surface for the light to reflect off and give more ambiance to the room.
Though the room is narrower than the adjacent spaces, it is the perfect setting for this home’s designated game room. A large fireplace dominates one of the far walls, giving a feeling of luxury and opulence. The marble texture and grey color of the fireplace’s exterior support the neutral tones seen in the rest of the game room, creating a cohesive design.
Lighter elements are contrasted through the use of darker flooring. The wood floors are stained in a dark, rich brown that appears almost black in the right lighting. It helps ground the space without overwhelming the design. This also helps anchor the pool table itself, which is the statement piece of the room, even more than the fireplace.
To tie in the pool table to the fireplace and the room’s general aesthetics, the table features a glossy black finish on its leg. Brushed aluminum adds texture and reflects swirls found in the fireplace’s natural marble framing. The light also reflects off the aluminum to add more vibrance to the space.
The most striking feature, however, is the way the table is balanced perfectly upon a single, angled piece, making it appear as if it is floating. Because the single leg is finished in a glossy black, it perfectly melts into the flooring, furthering the illusion of a floating tabletop. Every part of the table is an architectural and sculptural masterpiece, perfectly balanced and defiant of gravity.
The top of this pool table features a light blue cloth that is an excellent match to the wall seen in the background. It is the perfect addition, as it ties the entire design and allows the pool table to work with the room rather than against it. Despite the modern look of the piece, it still works with the room, too, in promoting an idea of opulence and luxury.
